介词on off 和 from都可以表示距离。
on表示 距离为“在……旁边”“挨着……”“沿着……的边上”
off表示距离其意为“离……不远”。
所以，从距离上看，on表示的距离(next to)要比 off表示的距离(near to)近一些。From +一个地点 +to +另外一个地点。
比如
He sat on my right.
他坐在我的右边。(指紧挨着)
The hotel is on the lake.
旅馆在湖边。(指紧挨着)
He lives just off the main road.
他住在离大路不远处。(指有一定的距离)
